Almost everybody at one point will use a microphone. It could be to call long distance relatives on Skype or to record your first ever Podcast. A bad microphone makes communication over the internet difficult or sometimes impossible! Luckily MXL has brought out an incredible, studio quality microphone which isn’t going to break the bank. I’ve had an incredible experience with the, read on to find out why. Design: The Studio 24 is a beautifully designed microphone. It doesn’t look cheap and looks very attractive on the supplied desktop stand.

The MXL Ultimative. Sp S on S so S red S August 4, 2016 NEW VIDEO SETUP!!! The New setup is ready for my videos as they come out, and is Diablo 2 Specific. On top of that, it's also ready for when the opportunity arises for me to be able to stream. Let me know how you think it looks and sounds!

The microphone itself has a nice, metallic look to it which looks great on any desk. On the side of the microphone there are separate controls for microphone gain as well as a headphone jack for latency-free monitoring. The microphone comes with a beautiful carrying case that has a bunch of compartments for everything such as cables and small desktop stands. It also comes with it’s own desktop stand a USB cable and MixCraft LE for recording. One thing I’d love the Studio 24 to come with is it’s own pop filter however you can pick these up pretty cheaply on Amazon for about $15. A feature that I thought was extremely practical was the red LED inside of the microphone.

Not only does this show the user when the microphone is turned on but it also signifies what side of the microphone to talk into. This may seem simple to some people, but for people who have never used a professional microphone before, this is something that will help you out immensely. Setting up the Studio 24 could not have been simpler, just plug your microphone in, change your sound preferences so it is the default input and you’re ready to go! Sound Quality: The Studio 24 records sound in 24 bit, a quality that’s used by professional recording studios everywhere. For a microphone of this price range, this is practically unheard of. Most USB microphones out on the market at the moment record at 16 bit and sometimes come in at double the price. I’ve got to give credit to MXL for somehow making this possible.

The Studio 24 records in mono. This means that it only records to one channel, when I tried to do a screen-cast with Quicktime I noticed that the signal only played back in earphone. This isn’t a huge problem with software like ScreenFlow and Garageband which caters for mono USB microphones by including a ‘mono to stereo’ option, however for software like Quicktime, you wont be so lucky. This is pretty unfortunate as it limits some of the software you can use the microphone with. Overall: The Studio 24 USB Microphone is one of the best USB mics I’ve ever had the pleasure of trying out. It’s robust, good looking, sounds great and comes with a bunch of really cool accessories, however the only things letting it down is it’s lack of stereo support and absense of a pop filter, however these don’t really take away from the fact that this microphone sounds incredible. I am going to give the MXL Studio 24 Microphone an impressive 4.5/5 stars!rating:4.5 Pros:.

Beautiful yet sturdy design. Great value for money, a lot of features for around $150!. Incredible sound quality compared to other microphones in a similar price range. Ideal for podcasting, music production and video calls. Software and Hardware work perfectly together.

Comes with recording software if you don’t already own it. Also comes with desktop stand, carrying case and USB lead. Simple to set up, just plug in and you’re ready to go!. MXL offers great customer support. Cons:. No stereo support just yet.

Does not come with a pop filter.

If you do much podcasting or recording on your Mac, as I sometimes do, you’ve probably found that your Mac’s built-in microphone doesn’t record audio as nicely as you’d like. Most people who do any significant amount of recording tend to purchase an external microphone to take things to the next level. But why stop at just the Mac? The ($58, ) takes things to a new level, allowing you to connect the mic to your iPad for recording on the go. Overview With today’s increasingly mobile lifestyle, sometimes it’s not convenient to stay tied to your Mac. Fortunately, the microphone takes this into account, and is completely compatible with all three generations of iPad (using the), allowing you to capture music, voice, or anything else from practically anywhere.

Design / Quality The Tempo is an extremely solid microphone, and its quality is apparent from the very first moment you take it on your hand – it looks and feels very durable. And because of it’s lightweight all-metal construction it’s also light enough and portable enough to take it anywhere you need to go. The quality doesn’t stop at the mic itself, however – the included folding tripod stand is extremely durable and lightweight, keeping the microphone stable and at the perfect angle for recording the very best possible audio in any circumstance. Sound As with all audio devices, the most important aspect of the Tempo is sound. And fortunately, the does not disappoint! I tested this microphone with several different types of audio, from recording my own speaking voice to capturing folk music from my guitar, and while I’m no audiophile, It seemed to perform extremely well with every sort of audio I subjected it to, including using it to dictate text on the new iPad.

Another especially useful feature on the Tempo is a no-latency audio jack, allowing you to monitor the audio you’re recording in real time. This can definitely save both time and hassle in making sure everything is being recorded exactly the way you want. It’s also worth noting that, while the Tempo performed very well while recording both voice and guitar music, it is designed with vocal recording in mind, so it likely wouldn’t perform well for particularly loud noises, nor percussive noises like a drum. Ease of Use The best aspect of the Tempo, at least for someone like me, is that it’s extremely simple to set up. The microphone is automatically detected on the iPad with no setup required, and can be setup within moments on a Mac through the Sound preference pane.

Also, since the Tempo is specifically tailored to recording voice, it captures the spoken word perfectly without adjusting any audio settings. Verdict I loved using the Tempo. It does a great job of recording without any setup or tuning, is solid enough that I never worried about its durability, works flawlessly with both my Mac and my iPad, and is small enough (about 7.5″ tall) and light enough to take it anywhere I need it to go. And with a retail cost of just $80, it’s also. Rating & Information Rating: 4.5/5rating:4.5 I liked almost every aspect of the Tempo.

It does a great job at a great price. However, considering that it’s specifically marketed as being iPad-compatible, I couldn’t help but feel that they should have included an iPad adapter, such as one of the many inexpensive third-party adapters available on the web. All things considered, however, that’s a relatively minor gripe. As such, I award the MXL Tempo 4.5 out of 5 stars. The Tempo is available in two colors (either or), and is available for $79.95 (although it is available for with free shipping at ). For more information, check out on the web. Pros.

Affordable. Durable, lightweight, and portable. Works with the iPad. Excellent sound quality Cons. Does not include an iPad USB adapter.
