The ghost of the Cure still haunts these songs, but Robert Smith usually embedded his iron-deficient melancholy with irresistible hooks - something Circo can't seem to regularly muster: These songs tend to sag when they should soar. When they drop the pretense and let themselves go dark on a song like 'La Roca,' the band suddenly seems sexier and more formidable than they've been letting on.
